UNCANNY X-MEN page 1 of 3
Demo pages for Marvel.
I liked how this set turned out as well. Although I'm not a huge fan of drawing tons of buildings(too much detail required:crying:), this one was my fav of the bunch.
:sherlock:Not sure who designed Emma's costume, but it would seem to be a bit of a precarious situation for her every time she has to run, jump, sneeze, or well breathe. Looks cool though!
Anyway, I hope you guys like these. Let me know what you think.

Nice clean work. I think a little more black would really be necessary so that it doesn't blend so much. But I know there is alot that can be done with digital colors also. Good work!

Thanks! And you're right on both accounts: adding a bit more ink/black for varied contrast to make it POP more, and yeah, good colors can make all the difference in the world.=p

Thanks. Yeah, I'm still learning and there's always something to improve upon. As far as the scripts, I got a sit down with some of the editors from Marvel down in San Diego at Comicon. They liked my stuff and sent me over some sample scripts to work on. Thanks again.

I totally agree with Emma`s Costume here(but the old one wasn`t much better at all such as in many super- powered girls who run around with high heels etc;) ) I think its really cool, that you`re doing an application for Marvel. I wouldn`t have the balls neither the talent for it.
So if I write you some critics here its just my own 5 cents, and its not mean meant!!!!(the last time I did I was nearly killed because I wrote my op so I say that BEFORE)
Through I think the page look (maybe because the Textures of the houses) kinda *crowed* You know?
Just think the whole Page is a picture, you design and think on the reader who should follow the story.
For the first thing I would suggest to the lines not all in the same *width* if you know hat I mean. (bold lines in foreground and more decent ones in the back.(but this is some a great Inker might solve ^^) The second thing: that with the panels is always hard for me as well- but since you draw pictures just try to design a "page-design" before starting to draw. (what is the important panel which perspective you use there etc.,you know. I haven`t seen why Emma "flies" until I looked twice. I would have chosen another angle for this- or at least some lines from the Sentinals hand however.

A)I just tell you all this when you say, you wanna show them to Marvel.I want you to be sucessfull - since I like what you are doing.
B) I can`t do it better. I just have worked long enough in Comics to know what at least my Ex- Boss would have told you.
Don`t be mad with me and keep up drawing ^^

Your depth is really muddy on these, making the storytelling a bit hard to see properly. Watch your detailing and your lineweights, adjust them accordingly so that you have proper depth -- that way everything is on a proper field (foregrounds, middlegrounds, and backgrounds) and it won't look as flat.

Thanks. That really good advice on varying the line weights more. I also think that pushing and pulling the angle of the top panel would definitely improve the over all perspective/impact of the page. Thanks again!:boogie:

I'm glad it'll help :) BTW to solve your dynamics issues, do what a lot of the pros do: photo ref :D Just to get the anatomy and foreshortening right on more dynamic perspective angles, use chairs, beds, etc for differences in height, and have fun with friends and a digital camera. It can always help :)
